How Becoming Kin handles information shared through becomingkin.org and the Kin Network.
Information We Collect
We collect information you choose to provide, including contact information, a display name, general service area, availability, languages, capabilities, volunteer interests, partnership interests, and initial referral requests. We also keep account and session records needed for secure sign-in.
Google, Apple & Email Sign-In
If you use Google or Apple, that provider confirms your identity and may share your name, email address, and profile image according to the permissions shown during sign-in. Apple may provide a private relay address. Email sign-in uses a short-lived, single-use secure link. Becoming Kin never receives your Google or Apple password.
Safety Screening Data
The Kin Network stores consent, workflow status, eligibility scope, dates, and an opaque provider reference when needed. It does not store fingerprints, ID images, dates of birth, criminal-history reports, arrest or conviction details, waivers, or adjudication notes. Those records remain with the authorized provider or Custodian of Records.
How We Use & Share Information
We use information to operate the network, suggest relevant opportunities, coordinate participation, maintain safety, respond to requests, and meet legal obligations. Approved teammates receive only the limited information needed for a confirmed assignment. Service providers may process data for hosting, authentication, and email delivery under their own privacy terms.
What We Don’t Do
We do not sell personal information, run a public member directory, publish identifying family or case information, or use engagement ranking and advertising profiles. Exact family locations and contact details are not placed on public opportunity pages.
Security & Retention
We use access controls, secure cookies, encrypted connections, audit records, and role-based staff access. No system can guarantee absolute security. We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for program administration, safety, legal obligations, and resolving disputes.
Your Choices
You may update your profile and ask to access, correct, or delete your information, subject to safety, legal, and recordkeeping requirements. You can stop participating at any time. Deleting an account does not require deletion of limited audit or incident records that Becoming Kin must retain.
